Have you ever considered the throne that Jesus is to sit on? Though at the moment he is with the heavenly Father, Jesus will sit on the throne of David. Jesus' throne is not in heaven, God has His own throne but God has given Jesus the throne of David.

The Israelites wanted a king. Although their request displeased God and even though God warned them the dangers of a king, the people refused to listen.

1 Samuel 8:4-10

Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, and said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.

And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them. And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king.

The prophet Samuel anointed Saul of the Benjamin tribe king. As time went on King Saul became wicked, doing what he thought was best while ignoring the commands of God.

Therefore God chose another and took away the kingdom from Saul. Young David was chosen, a man after God’s own heart.

1 Samuel 13:14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.

David pleased God to such a degree that God gave David a promise. The promise was that David’s seed would forever sit on his throne.

Psalm 89:3-4 I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.

Psalm 132:11 The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

Isaiah 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Acts 2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

Therefore Jesus, though he is with God at the moment, Jesus’ throne is the one David sat upon. God has His own throne, God does not want a man’s throne. But Jesus, he has been given the glory of King of God’s people, to lead and to instruct them.

Jesus has his own glory, his own praise for the work he has done, for God has given him such glory.

Jesus’ Glory

Matthew 19:28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Matthew 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

 God’s throne is heavenly and does not mention anything about David's throne.

Hebrews 8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

Acts 7:49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?

Matthew 5:34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:

 Conclusion

Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

We will also be given our own glory if we complete the tasks before us laid out at the beginning of time from God. Jesus has the throne of David, and abundantly more glory because of what he gave to God.

Take a look at these verses in 1 Corinthians.

Then cometh the end, when he(Jesus) shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father;

when he(Jesus) shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

For he(Jesus) must reign, till he(Jesus) hath put all enemies under his feet.

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

For he(God) hath put all things under his (Jesus) feet. But when he (God) saith all things are put under him (Jesus), it is manifest that he (God) is excepted, which did put all things under him (Jesus).

And when all things shall be subdued unto him (God), then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him (God) that put all things under him (Jesus) that God may be all in all.

1 Corinthians 15:24-28

When all is done, judgement is over, Jesus will hand back all the power God gave to him because there is no need for it anymore, for God’s people have been shepherded back to their Creator. God will reign over His people, alone. Therefore, why if Jesus is God… why would he need to give back to himself the power and authority?

Jesus has been given great authority because he has proven to God his obedience and love, but after all is done there is no need for him to have such authority because there is no more enemies or evil to fight against. Therefore things can do back to the way they were supposed to be at the beginning of the creation.

Jesus is King, on David’s throne he reigns with great power and strength given to him from God. God’s throne is in heaven, but David’s throne belongs to a man. A part of Jesus’ glory and honour is sitting on the throne of David.

Luke 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
